The musical beach event on 19th June, hereafter known as Freedom Friday, will start at 6pm and go on till late with music ranging from a live string Jam session, followed by Blues and Jazz as the sun sets, and then top UK DJ Dave Dunn from Noise Boutique performing his signature soulful/funky U.S House. The evening will close with a set from famed Cypriot music producer, Harri Kakoulli. This follows the release of his Christmas single, “Do They Know Its Christmas?” in 2014 for FDI.
“We’re delighted to be able to begin a series of island wide, annual events here in our home town of Larnaca”, said President, Nicola Smith. “It’s a subject matter that has been taboo for many here in Cyprus, however, we believe that through events such as these, we can raise awareness and funds, utilising our mandate of ‘Working Together’. Supported by the MTV Exit, Cyprus Anti Trafficking Unit, Larnaca Municipality, Social Welfare Services, The Cyprus Volunteer Organisation, IOM X, [the International Organization for Migration] and local businesses, FDI believes that by working together, with the general public, we can stop Cyprus being a destination point for human trafficking and sexually exploited victims.”
FDI, provides a constant supportive voice for the victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking, and offers a safe environment for the survivors, whilst they undergo therapeutic, creative arts and educational programmes during the recovery process. Their mandate is to RAISE AWARENESS – GIVE PROTECTION – SUPPORT SURVIVORS – FACILITATE RECOVERY – EDUCATE – PROVIDE TRAINING – AND Finally……..TO GIVE FREEDOM.
The unique dolls, after which the organisation is named, are made by the survivors as part of their creative arts programme, and will be available for purchase at the event along with their handmade jewellery and other FDI items.
